Iran, Oman move to regulate strategic Strait of Hormuz transit system

Tehran, May 18 (UNI) With the Strait of Hormuz being a major point of contention between the US and Iran, Iran’s top security body has announced the formation of a new agency to manage the vital waterway. It has also joined hands with Oman to create a new mechanism to regulate maritime transit through this strategically important passage.
As no deal has been reached between the US and Tehran following the US-Israeli attack against the Islamic Republic, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday that Tehran remains in “constant contact” with Oman and other relevant parties to design a framework aimed at ensuring secure and uninterrupted navigation through the waterway, one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
Speaking at his weekly press briefing, Baghaei described the Strait of Hormuz as a “vital” maritime passage whose significance extends beyond Iran and Oman to the global economy.
