Srinagar, Nov 7 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was adjourned for the second day on Thursday amid continuous pandemonium over the passing of a resolution for the restoration of its special status.
As the pandemonium continued, five legislators - Sajad alone, Waheed Pata, Fayaz Mir, Sheikh Rashid and Shabir Ahmad Kullay - attempted to submit another resolution before the Speaker seeking restoration of Article 370 and 35A
The resolution which was passed through voice vote on Wednesday called upon the Central Government to initiate dialogue with elected representatives of the people of J&K for restoration of special status, constitutional guarantees and to work out constitutional mechanisms for restoring these provisions.
As soon as the legislators assembled this morning for the day, the Speaker asked MLA Baramulla Javaid Baig to initiate the discussion on Lieutenant Governor's address. However, Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma stood up and referred to yesterday's resolution saying it was illegal and unconstitutional.
In the meantime, MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed reached the well of the House with a banner which read " We demand restoration of Article 370 and release of prisoners."
This annoyed BJP legislators who tried to snatch the banner. A scuffle broke as several legislators jumped in the well of the House. The legislators were seen trying to get hold of the banner which
was torn apart by the BJP legislators.
In the pandemonium, the Speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
As the House assembled after the adjournment, the BJP legislators continued their protest and shouted slogans. The NC legislators too were seen raising slogans
The Speaker, meanwhile, requested legislators to get back on their seats. However, the pandemonium continued and BJP legislators questioned the Speaker's conduct.
The Speaker later directed marshals not to allow any legislator to enter into the well. As BJP
leaders tried to storm they were marshalled out.
The BJP legislator who was taken out of the house alleged that some of them were injured during
the action.
"This all happened because of the Speaker's wrong policies," said BJP legislator Satish Sharma.
As the calm was not restored in the House, the Assembly was adjourned by the Speaker till tomorrow.
