J&K govt formation: PDP, BJP leaders to meet Governor today

Jammu, Mar 26 (UNI) After settlement of various issues, PDP and BJP leaders are going to meet Governor N N Vohra at the Raj Bhavan this evening on the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. "PDP president Mehbooba Mufti-led delegation will meet the Governor this evening at Raj Bhawan," sources here said. They said from PDP side Ms Mufti, senior leaders Nayeem Akhtar, Haseeb Drabu will meet Mr Vohra. The sources added that the close aides of late chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and founder members of PDP, Muzaffair Hussain Beig and Tariq Hamid Qarra are also likely to visit the Raj Bhavan with the delegation. From BJP side, state president Sat Sharma, former deputy chief minister Dr Nirmal Singh and MP Jugal Kishore will meet the Governor. Both the parties, who were called for a meeting by the Governor last evening, postponed the meet and held joint deliberations before formally announcing the government formation after a period of over two months. Ms Mufti, however, will be the first woman and 13th chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. "As per Governor’s letter of March 22, to presidents of PDP and BJP, they were scheduled to have separate meetings with him at Raj Bhavan,’’ an official spokesman said here last night. He said the Raj Bhavan was approached by the PDP to ascertain whether the PDP and BJP leaders could meet the Governor together this evening and it was agreed to. "PDP and BJP leaders had later informed the Raj Bhavan that talks were ongoing at Jammu between the leaders of their parties and they would make a fresh request for meeting the Governor when they had concluded their discussions,’’ the spokesman asserted. The PDP-BJP meeting with the Governor was postponed due to the "crisis’’ over portfolio distribution as BJP is looking for cabinet berth in Finance and Planning besides MoS status for Home, which earlier was with the PDP during Sayeed’s headed regime. BJP had yesterday after legislator party meeting cleared that there will be no change in ‘Agenda of Alliance’ for government formation and Dr Nirmal Singh will be the candidate for Deputy Chief Ministerial chair. Dr Singh was also the DyCM in 10-month-long PDP-BJP government headed by Sayeed. The Governor's Rule was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir on January 8 after the death of Sayeed on January 7 at AIIMS, New Delhi. UNI VBH SW 1411
