Japan's Okinawa gov't repeats calls for suspension of US Osprey aircraft flights

Tokyo, Dec 1 (UNI) The government of Japan's southern prefecture of Okinawa has again asked the country's defense ministry for a suspension of flights by US-made Osprey military aircraft after one of the planes crashed in Japan earlier in the week, media reported on Friday.
On Wednesday, an Osprey with eight people on board crashed into the sea near the Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan, leaving one crew member killed and seven others missing. Following the accident, the prefecture's government filed a request with Japan's defense authorities for a suspension of Osprey flights until the causes of the crash are clarified.
The Okinawa government made a renewed request on Friday, saying that the aircraft should not even participate in search and rescue operations and calling for using other aircraft instead, the Japanese NHK broadcaster reported.
