Japan to build missile training site to boost long-range capabilities

Tokyo, July 25 (UNI) Japan plans to set up a training site for surface-to-ship missile launches on a remote Pacific island to boost its long-range strike capabilities in response to growing military tensions with China, the media reported on Thursday, citing a Defence Ministry official.

The ministry told local officials about its plan to build military facilities on Minamitori Island, located about 1,900 kilometres (1,180 miles) southeast of Tokyo, with operations expected to start by fiscal 2026 or later, Kyodo News Agency reported.
