Bengaluru, Oct 2 (UNI) Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Monday clarified that there is no ban on carpooling, and appealed to the aggregators to seek legal permission to operate cab services, hinting that they are operating white board cabs, which is illegal in Karnataka.
"Everybody should follow the rules and regulations. If they want to run, let them run yellow boards (cabs). At present we have not banned it. This is false news. They have not taken permission, so where is the question of banning. Let them take permission. Anyhow they are meeting tomorrow, I will talk to them. Whatever help I can do within the parameters of the law," he told reporters.
Recently, the taxi associations have expressed concerns that free bus ride schemes for women in the state and illegal cab services provided by aggregators were impacting their daily income.
Moreover, the taxi association and autorickshaw drivers' union had observed Bengaluru bandh sometimes back, asking the Congress government to address their demands including compensation of revenues lost due to free bus ride for women.
The autorickshaw drivers also had demanded banning the services of bike taxis.
