Kannada film Tiger's Pond ties up with French distribution giant Loco Films

Mumbai, Jan 19 (UNI) French distribution powerhouse Loco Films has acquired the international rights for Kannada feature film "Tiger's Pond" (Vagchipani), an evocative crime drama helmed by the acclaimed filmmaker Natesh Hegde.
Supported by Anurag Kashyap, the movie is set to make its world debut in the prestigious Forum section of the Berlin International Film Festival.
Set against a backdrop of rural India, "Tiger's Pond" offers an incisive exploration of power dynamics, focusing on the simmering tensions between a shrewd feudal businessman exploiting local elections and a fiercely independent villager challenging the system, according to a report by Variety.
The film on boards a stellar cast of actors including Dileesh Pothan, Achyut Kumar, Gopal Hegde and Sumitra., alongside director Hegde himself. Hegde, whose previous work "Pedro" earned international acclaim, continues his exploration of complex human emotions and rural landscapes.
"Pedro" made waves in the festival circuit, premiering at the Busan International Film Festival in 2021 and winning accolades such as Best Director at Pingyao and Best Film at the Nantes Three Continents Festival, and had a stellar festival run including the BFI London Film Festival, Golden Horse and IndieLisboa, solidifying Hegde's reputation as an auteur of erudite storytelling, the report said.
Anurag Kashyap lauded the project saying, “I loved Pedro and I loved Natesh when i met him at various film festivals. We acted together with Dilesh Pothan in ‘Rifle Club.’ That’s when he told me about ‘Tiger’s Pond’ and I was happy to come on board.”
Loco Films, represented by Arnaud Godart, described the acquisition as an opportunity to support “a true cinematic experience. Natesh Hegde succeeds in taking us on an intimate and captivating journey. We are delighted to be working with this new voice of Indian cinema and to help him reach an international audience.”
Expressing his gratitude, Hegde remarked, “I’m so happy and excited to share the film with the world at one of greatest film festivals, Berlinale,” Hegde added. “It’s been a great effort making and carrying this film. This kind of film needs care and one should nurture it. I’m sure no better person than Anurag Kashyap, Jeremy Chua and Ranjan Singh for that.” UNI XC SSP
