Karnataka CEO questions Rahul Gandhi's double voting allegation

Bengaluru, Aug 10 (UNI) In a significant development that has sparked political and electoral scrutiny in Karnataka, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has raised questions over allegations made by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi concerning double voting in the recent elections.
The controversy centres on claims by Gandhi during his August 7 press conference in New Delhi, where he alleged that a voter named Shakun Rani had cast her vote twice. To support his assertion, Rahul Gandhi presented a document which he identified as an official record from the Election Commission of India, purportedly issued by the polling officer at the voting booth.
However, a preliminary inquiry conducted by the Karnataka CEO’s office has cast doubt on the authenticity of these allegations. The investigation revealed that the document displayed by Gandhi — marked with a tick to indicate double voting — is not an official record issued by the polling officer. Further compounding the issue, Rani herself has categorically denied the charge of voting twice, insisting that she voted only once during the election.
