Karnataka Cong seeks action against Udupi DC over RSS flag

Bengaluru, Jan 21 (UNI) The Karnataka Congress on Wednesday demanded action against Udupi Deputy Commissioner TK Swaroopa for allegedly holding and displaying the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) flag during the Paryaya procession in Udupi earlier this week, terming the act a violation of service rules and the constitutional principle of secularism.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Harish Shetty, President of the Legal and Human Rights Department of the District Congress Committee, sought an immediate inquiry and legal action against the Deputy Commissioner.
According to the letter, the incident occurred on January 18 at around 3.00 am, when a Paryaya procession was taken out from Jodukatte in Udupi city to the Sri Krishna Math. It alleged that before the commencement of the procession, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna handed over the RSS flag to the Deputy Commissioner, who held it aloft and displayed it publicly.
