Kerala: BIS seizes Rs 35 lakh worth of non-compliant iPhones in Kochi raid

Kochi, June 18 (UNI) The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has seized mobile phones worth around Rs 35 lakh during a surprise enforcement raid at a retail outlet in Kadavanthra after detecting alleged violations of mandatory certification norms.
The raid was carried out by officials of the BIS Kochi branch at Hello Store, located at Petriz Building near IDBI Bank on Sahodaran Ayyappan Road, to verify compliance with the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021.
During the inspection, officials recovered 30 Apple iPhones that were allegedly being offered for sale without the mandatory BIS Standard Mark under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). BIS said the devices had reportedly been sourced from overseas markets, were not intended for sale in India, and had not been registered under the country's compulsory certification framework.
