Kerala’s cancer burden escalates into public health crisis: Expert warns of misinformation risks

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 7 (UNI) Cancer in Kerala has shifted from a health concern to a mounting public health crisis that is now touching almost every household, reflecting both global trends and Kerala-specific vulnerabilities, cautioned leading public health expert and epidemiologist Dr. Naresh Purohit.
Talking to the media in connection with the National Cancer Awareness Day, Dr. Purohit, Advisor to the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP), said cancer incidence in the state has surged far beyond the national average.
Kerala currently reports 243 cancer cases per lakh men and 219 per lakh women, compared to the national average of 105 and 103 per lakh, respectively.
