Khaira seeks clarity on leasing of Lehra Gaga Institute to a private body

Chandigarh, Jan 13 (UNI) Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Tuesday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government’s decision to lease the Baba Hira Singh Bhattal Institute of Engineering and Technology at Lehra Gaga to a private society, alleging it reflects a lack of commitment to strengthening Punjab’s public healthcare infrastructure.
Raising the issue in a public statement, Khaira said the campus, developed with state funds, could have been utilised to establish a government-run medical college. He argued that transferring such a prominent public institution to a private entity at what he described as concessional lease terms raises concerns over intent, transparency, and priorities of the Bhagwant Mann-led government.
Khaira demanded that the Chief Minister disclose all details related to the allotment, including the lease agreement, selection criteria of the private society, and approvals granted for the decision. He also sought information about the background and credentials of the society and its office bearers.
