Kharge Committee formed for revised draft on Devasthan land: Maha Minister Bawankule

Nashik, Jun 6 (UNI) Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced in Nagpur on Saturday the decision to stay the current draft of the proposed 'Maharashtra Devasthan Inam Abolition Act, 2026'—intended to protect the rights of Devasthans (temple trusts) in Maharashtra and remove encroachments on their lands—and to establish a high-level committee chaired by Vikas Kharge, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department, to prepare a revised draft.
He said that citizens and Devasthan authorities will be able to register their objections regarding this revised draft at the District Collector's office until September 15, 2026.
Minister Bawankule expressed confidence that following this entire process, the final legislation—designed to strengthen Devasthans and safeguard their rights—would be tabled for approval during the upcoming legislative session in December.
