Kirit Somaiya demands ban on open Eid al-Adha sacrifices in Mumbai

Mumbai, May 17 (UNI) BJP leader Kirit Somaiya on Sunday objected to the practice of open animal sacrifice during Eid al-Adha (also known as Bakrid or the "Festival of Sacrifice") and demanded strict action against violations in Mumbai.
In a letter addressed to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, Somaiya sought a ban on open sacrifices during Eid al-Adha and questioned whether action would be taken this year against such activities.
He demanded strict enforcement against the slaughter of goats in societies, chawls and open spaces in Mumbai during Eid al-Adha and other occasions. According to Somaiya, despite restrictions imposed by the BMC and courts from time to time, illegal slaughter activities continue to take place openly in some areas in violation of rules.
