Kolkata, Sep 14 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested former Principal of R G Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh and Kolkata police officer Abhijit Mondal in connection with the brutal rape-murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor here last month.
Mondal is the officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station. The colonial era R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the 31 year old lady medic's body was found on August 9 morning, is located under jurisdiction over the police station.
"CBI has arrested former Principal of Kolkata's KG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal, officer-in-charge of Tala police station in the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor," sources told UNI.
Ghosh was earlier arrested by the CBI for his involvement in alleged corruption during his stint as principal of the medical college since 2021.
It may be mentioned that the number of arrests in connection with the doctor's rape and murder, which has sent shockwaves across the nation and triggered widespread protests, has now gone up to three.
Kolkata police civic volunteer Sanjay Roy had been arrested by the city police earlier.
The Calcutta High Court had later handed over the case to the CBI.
