Lake management plan must for Surinsar, Mansar, feels 'Dolphin Man of India'

Jammu, Mar 21 (UNI) Stating that the holy rivers and lakes are under severe pressure, Padam Shree, Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) popularly known as ‘Dolphin Man of India’ on Tuesday advocated for lake management for Surinsar and Mansar lakes situated in Jammu and Udhampur-Samba districts respectively for sustainable eco-friendly tourism.
“Our holy rivers and lakes are under severe pressure due to effluents, heavy metals, micro plastic and sewage and we need to mitigate the ill effects of water pollution,” said Prof Sinha speaking at an event organised on World Water Day by the institution at Mansar.
Mansar Lake, a world renowned Ramsar Site is home to aquatic and avian biodiversity wherein World Water Day is celebrated each year to raise awareness about precious water and inspire action to tackle the water scarcity and resultant environment crisis.
