Lenovo to give PCs on interest free loans in UP to increase computer penetration

Lucknow, Oct 13 (UNI) Lenovo, the world’s largest PC maker and an emerging player in tablets and smartphones, has announced the launch of its ‘Start up with Lenovo’ initiative to increase PC usage in Uttar Pradesh. The company, has launched interest free loans for purchase of the lenovo PC ranging from Rs 24,990 to Rs 50,000. Lenovo has tied up with Bajaj Finance in which the customer will have to pay in nine easy instalments. The intiative by Lenovo to jumpstart India’s computer penetration, which is currently at 10 per cent and is the lowest among other developing countries like South Africa (18%), Turkey (49%) and Malaysia (64%). Lenovo, head consumer, marketing and Digital Amit Doshi said here today that in the first phase, Lenovo is rolling out the initiative in UP in addition to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. This program is a significant step by Lenovo towards the larger ‘Digital India’ movement that aims at transforming India into a digitally empowered society, he said. According to Census 2011, the PC penetration in Uttar Pradesh is only 8.1 per cent which is much lower than its neighbouring states of Punjab (12.8 per cent)and Haryana (13.2 percent). Mr Doshi said this offers Lenovo a huge opportunity to increase computer penetration in the state owing to its large rural population with a high percentage of literate youth.There is significant merit in increasing technology intervention to make the youth more employable, and ‘Start up with Lenovo’ will contribute to the same, he further added. Lenovo is offering financing support on a wide range of fully loaded, great value computers across AIOs and laptops starting at Rs 24,990 with interest free EMIs as low as Rs 3000. For the finance scheme, Lenovo has tied up with Bajaj Financial Service to offer customers a 9 EMI scheme, divided into a down payment of 2 months EMI, a processing fee of Rs 749 and payback balance in 7 EMIs with 0% interest on EMIs.
