Mumbai, July 17 (UNI) Defeated Shiv Sena (Uddav Balasaheb Thackeray) candidate Amol Kirtikar has approached the Bombay High Court, seeking the cancellation of the election Ravindra Waikar of Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde from the Mumbai North-West Lok Sabha constituency.
Kirtikar had lost to Waikar by a narrow margin of 48 votes. While Waikar got 4,52,644 votes, Kirtikar got 4,52,596
In his petition, Kirtikar alleged lack of transparency and lapses by the Election Commission officials claiming that he was not permitted to file an application of recounting of votes which is in complete ignorance of statutory instructions in that regard.
He also alleged that the officials had allowed the use of mobile phones inside the counting area and allowed impersonators to cast 333 votes.
"The petitioner is aggrieved on account of the improper reception of void votes cast by 333 impersonators in place of genuine voters, along with breach of rules and orders, pertaining to the counting process, by Election Commission officials, which has materially affected the outcome of the election results," the plea said.
