Maha: IAC president appeals govt to intervene for smooth fuel supply during pre-sowing farm operations

Pune, May 19 (UNI) As ploughing and pre-sowing operations have come to a complete halt due to unavailability of diesel for tractors and other farming equipment in most rural areas of Maharashtra, Hemant Patil, national president of India Against Corruption, today expressed serious concern over the situation and strongly urged the state government to intervene immediately and ensure smooth fuel supply.
The situation has become extremely critical in regions such as Marathwada, Vidarbha and Western Maharashtra, particularly in Latur, Hingoli, Washim, Jalna, Parbhani and the Sangli-Kolhapur belt. Farmers are being forced to wait in queues for hours to obtain diesel. Many petrol pumps have started rationing fuel per vehicle, and the limited diesel supply is insufficient even to complete cultivation on a single acre of land. As a result, tractor operators have reportedly begun telling farmers, “Bring diesel first, only then will we plough your fields.” This has created severe financial distress for farmers who do not own tractors.
Patil has warned that cultivation costs may rise further in the coming days, pushing farmers into a double crisis. This fuel shortage during the crucial farming season could severely impact the rural economy. If cultivation work is not completed on time, the entire upcoming Kharif season and sowing activities may be jeopardized.
