Mamata pledges ‘Special Celebration’ if Kanyashree beneficiaries cross one crore before 2026 polls

Kolkata, Aug 14 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today announced that the state will hold a “special celebration” if the number of beneficiaries under the Kanyashree scheme — a flagship initiative to promote girls’ education and prevent child marriage — reaches one crore.

Currently, the Kanyashree scheme has about 93 lakh beneficiaries, and the figure is expected to cross the one-crore mark in the coming months—well before next year’s Assembly polls—giving
