Man and teenage daughter drown while trying to save each other

Palghar, Jan 14 (UNI) A Makar Sankranti visit to relatives ended in tragedy for a forty-year-old man and his sixteen-year-old daughter, who drowned in a water-filled quarry in the Virar area of Palghar district on Wednesday while attempting to rescue each other, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Vinayak Sitam and his daughter Ishita, residents of Jogeshwari in Mumbai. The father and daughter had travelled to Virar to visit their relatives residing in the Barafpada area, which is located near the quarry where the incident occurred.
According to preliminary information, Vinayak Sitam entered the water-filled quarry for a swim. However, he soon began to struggle after getting into difficulty in the deep water. Seeing her father in distress, Ishita jumped into the quarry in an attempt to save him. Tragically, both were unable to come out of the water.
