MDMK stages demo against saffronisng Thiruvalluvar, demands abolition of TN Guv post

Chennai, June 7 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko along with his party cadres were arrested when they attempted to take out a march to Lok Bhavan on Sunday evening after staging a protest demonstration condemning saffronisation of Saint Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar by Tamil Nadu Governor R V Arlekar and demanded abolition of the gubernatorial post.
Addressing the protestors, Vaiko, claid in blank pant and black shirt questioned the audacity of the Governor in adorning Thiruvallvar in saffron robes in a portrait at an event held in Lok Bhavan a couple of days back.
Keeping the iconic Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar in saffron robes once again at the Lok Bhavan with Mr Arlekar paying floral tributes has inflamed passions, inviting condemnation from the state government and the opposition DMK.

Centre raises Telangana rice procurement target to 43 lakh MT: Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad/New Delhi, July 22 (UNI) union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy on Wednesday welcomed the Centre's decision to increase rice procurement from Telangana by an additional 8 lakh metric tonnes, raising the target from 35 lakh metric tonnes to 43 lakh metric tonnes (equivalent to 64 lakh metric tonnes of paddy) for the Kharif Marketing Season 2025-26.
