Meghalaya: CM hails release of 14 Kuki civilians, calls for safe release of 6 Naga hostages

Shillong, June 9 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has welcomed the release of 14 Kuki civilians who had been detained in Manipur’s Senapati district, describing the move as a humanitarian gesture that reflects the values of compassion and reconciliation.
Sangma, who is also the president of the National People’s Party (NPP), which supports the BJP-led government in trouble-torn Manipur, has appealed to Kuki civil society organisations and community leaders to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring the immediate and unconditional release of the six Naga civilians who are reportedly still being held captive.
“I welcome and deeply appreciate the decision of the United Naga Council (UNC), the Naga tribal Hohos, civil society organisations, community leaders, and all concerned stakeholders to facilitate the release of the 14 Kuki civilians who had been detained in Senapati,” Sangma stated in a statement issued today.
