Meghalaya deputy speaker Shira quits amid likely cabinet reshuffle

Shillong, Sep 8 (UNI) Meghalaya assembly Deputy Speaker, Timothy Dalbot Shira resigned today citing that Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma had requested him to do so, giving rise to speculation about a possible Cabinet reshuffle after the assembly session on September 12.
Speaker Thomas Ampang Sangma has accepted Shira’s resignation and convened an emergency meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), which has fixed the election for the new Deputy Speaker to be held on September 12.
“I have submitted my resignation to the Speaker this morning after the Chief Minister directed me last night to put in my papers. As a disciplined party man, I did not ask the Chief Minister what was the reason that he asked me to resign from the post of Deputy Speaker,” Shira told UNI.
