Mexican president says no upcoming trade war with U.S.

Mexico City, Jan 25 (UNI) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Friday that there is no trade war on the horizon with the United States, after U.S. President Donald Trump's conciliatory remarks on trade with Mexico the day before.
"I do not see a trade war. The U.S. president spoke differently about Mexico yesterday," Sheinbaum told a daily press conference.
Responding to questions at the World Economic Forum on Thursday, Trump said, "We're dealing with Mexico, I think, very well. We just want to be treated fairly."
Trump has threatened to impose a 25 percent tariff on Mexican imports starting Feb. 1.
Sheinbaum also expressed willingness to strengthen collaboration with Washington and work with Trump on some priority issues, such as the distribution of fentanyl and migration.
Trump has signed various executive orders to strengthen anti-immigrant measures through mass deportations since taking office. In response, the Mexican government set up migrant care centres along the border and launched the "Mexico Embraces You" program to provide comprehensive care for deportees.
