Srinagar, Sep 12 (UNI) Asserting that the militant involved in the killing of a police officer in the summer capital, Srinagar has been identified, Director General of Police (DGP), J&K, Dilbag Singh on Sunday that the accused would be brought to justice soon.
The DGP said about a dozen modules, which were involved in pistol shootings and civilian killings in Srinagar, have been neutralized. “The new module, which is currently active in the city, has almost been identified. We will soon initiate action against them,” Mr Singh told reporters after the wreath laying ceremony of the police office.
“The preparatory involved in the crime (killing of ASI) has been identified and will be brought to justice,” he said.
Police this evening paid a floral tribute to Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Jammu and Kashmir police, identified as Arshid Ashraf Mir, who was shot dead by a militant in the downtown Srinagar on Sunday afternoon.
Giving details about the incident, the DGP said, “He was deputed to a hospital for checkup of an accused person. And when he was coming back from the hospital he was shot. He was immediately taken to a hospital… unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries.”
“It is a very tragic incident. We have lost a very brave officer, who was just at the threshold of the service. He was learning the nuances of policing. It is a very tragic loss for us and the family,” he added.
Answering a question, Mr Singh said that the killing of a civilian or security force personnel in his kind of attack is a cause of concern for the security agencies. “The accused involved in such crimes in the past have been brought to the justice,” he said.
The DGP said that in this case also the investigation teams are working and soon the accused will be brought to the justice.
Meanwhile, BJP General Secretary Organization, J&K, Ashok Koul strongly condemned the killing of ASI, saying such inhumane acts will never be tolerate. “I demand that those behind these attacks be identified for stern punishment,” he added.
