Mizoram records 31,461 HIV/AIDS cases says MSACS

Aizawl, Dec 1 (UNI) Mizoram has recorded at least 31,461 cases of HIV/AIDS since October 1990, with 5,277 deaths attributed to the infection, officials from the Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) reported.
The data was revealed as the state joined the global observance of World AIDS Day on Sunday.
According to MSACS officials, 91.23 percent of HIV-positive individuals in the state are aged between 15 and 49 years. Unsafe sex remains the primary cause of transmission, accounting for 63.93 percent of cases. Additionally, 30.80 percent of those living with HIV/AIDS are intravenous drug users who share syringes and needles.
