Mumbai, Aug 9 (UNI) The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed a plea field by an outdoor media company’s director challenging his arrest in the deadly Ghatkopar hoarding collapse here in May.
The hoarding erected by petitioner Bhavesh Bhinde’s Ego Media company collapsed on May 13, killing 17 people and injuring more than 70.
A division bench of Justices Bharati Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande dismissed Bhinde’s plea, saying that 'the ground raised for claiming that his (Bhide) arrest is illegal, according to us, is nothing but faux”.
“As we have noticed, procedural safeguards, which are indefeasible and receive recognition through the Constitution, which have considered liberty of the citizen to be of paramount importance, is not impaired in any manner. Finding no merit and substance, writ petition is dismissed,” the court said.
Bhinde was arrested from Rajasthan's Udaipur on May 16 by the Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch.
