Narayana Health performs 3 heart transplants in 12 hrs

Bengaluru, Sept 10 (UNI) In a landmark achievement, Narayana Health City, Bengaluru, has successfully performed three heart transplants within just 12 hours, becoming the first hospital in the country to accomplish such a feat.
The unprecedented series of back-to-back surgeries, carried out by the cardiac team of Narayana Health City, saved the lives of three men in their mid-30s who had been waiting for over a year for suitable donors. All three recipients were in critical condition, with rising lung pressures that could have soon rendered them ineligible for transplantation.
The donor hearts were retrieved from Sparsh Hospital, Yelahanka; Aster CMI Hospital, Hebbal; and Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road. Through meticulously coordinated logistics and green corridors, the hearts were transported to Narayana Health City, enabling simultaneous procedures by a multidisciplinary team of heart failure cardiologists, transplant surgeons, anaesthesiologists, perfusionists, transplant coordinators, and critical-care specialists.
