Nepal’s ‘Gen Z agitation’ spirals out of control, protesters breach Parliament premises; 6 dead

Kathmandu, Sep 8 (UNI) In a major development, Nepal’s ‘GenZ' protesters – agitating against corruption, social media censorship, and negligence – breached the Parliament’s Gate 2, hurling stones, and setting fire to certain parts of the structure. The Kathmandu administration has imposed curfew in parts of the capital, amid reports that six people have died in violent clashes with the police.
The mass agitation occurred in wake of the government’s controversial ban on several social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, alleging that they had failed to register with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
The youth-led protests, which began peacefully in the morning with patriotic songs and anti-corruption slogans, have now turned into one of the most serious challenges to state authority in recent years, reports Nepal News.
