New species of snake named after Mizoram

Aizawl, Aug 8 (UNI) A new species of snake has been discovered in Mizoram and named Smithophis mizoramensis in honour of the state.

The discovery was made by Professor H.T. Lalremsanga, Head of the Department of Zoology at Mizoram University, and Assistant Professor Dr. M. Vabeiryureilai, in collaboration with researchers from across India and the Max Planck Institute in Germany. The findings were published on August 7, 2024, in the scientific journal Diversity, Switzerland.
