Newly-elected Bihar MLAs take oath

Patna, Dec 1 (UNI) The second day of the maiden session of the 16th Bihar Assembly commenced today with oath-taking by the newly elected MLAs, including 98 first timers. The day began with Protem Speaker Sadanand Singh administering oath to deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Prasad Yadav. He was followed by Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav, Finance Minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui and other ministerial colleagues of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Leader of the opposition in the assembly Prem Kumar was also administered the oath by the Protem Speaker. The deputy CM and the Health Minister are sons of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad. They are among the 98 debutante to be elected to the 243-member assembly. The opening day of the winter session had to be adjourned yesterday following death of Rashtriya Lok Samata Party MLA Basant Kumar due to cardiac arrest. A first timer, he had been elected from Harlakhi Assembly seat in Madhubani district. According to the assembly secretariat, the first two days of the session have been earmarked for oath-taking by the newly elected members. After all the members are administered oath, a new Speaker will be elected. In all likelihood, senior JD(U) MLA Vijay Chaudhary, a close confidante of the Chief Minister will succeed Udai Narain Choudhary.
