Kolkata, April 29 (UNI) In the 47th IPL encounter, the Kolkata Knight Riders showcased their bowling prowess, leading to wrapping up Delhi Capitals for a paltry 153/9 at the iconic Eden Gardens here on Monday.
KKR's bowlers stole the show with an impressive display, spearheaded by the dynamic Varun Chakaravarthy, who emerged as the star performer with three crucial wickets. His ability to deceive rival batsmen with his variations played a pivotal role in denting Delhi Capitals' batting lineup.
Supporting Chakaravarthy's heroics, Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana delivered notable performances, claiming two wickets each. Their disciplined bowling and ability to maintain pressure on DC batsmen contributed significantly to KKR's dominance on the field.
Adding to KKR's bowling arsenal, the experienced duo of Mitchell Starc and Sunil Narine made vital contributions, each securing a dismissal to further tighten the screws on scoring opportunities of DC.
Winning the toss, DC captain Rishabh Pant opted to bat first. However, the team faced an early setback with the loss of opener Prithvi Shaw in the second over, dismissed by Arora.
Jake Fraser-McGurk followed suit soon after, leaving Delhi Capitals in a precarious position. Despite valiant efforts from the middle order, including contributions from Abhishek Porel, Shai Hope, and Axar Patel, wickets fell at regular intervals.
Pant anchored the innings with a knock of 27 runs before falling to Chakaravarthy's delivery. The lower order, led by Kuldeep Yadav, showcased resilience, with his unbeaten 34 off 26 balls being the highlight of the innings. Rasikh Salam chipped in with eight runs before DC concluded their innings.
As the action shifts to KKR's batting, they probably have a very easy task cut out to successfully chase the target, but given the uncertainties in the game of cricket, is wise not to make any prediction. As both teams are eyeing crucial points in the IPL standings, the stage is set for an enthralling encounter at Eden Gardens.
