Amazon unveils first Engineer Makerspace

Bengaluru, Nov 12 (UNI) In a significant step towards bridging the educational divide in technology, Amazon on Tuesday announced the opening of its first Future Engineer Makerspace in this southern Indian city.
The new initiative, launched in partnership with The Innovation Story, aims to provide underserved students from grades 5 through 12 with immersive, hands-on learning experiences in robotics, AI, and advanced technology. By 2025, the programme is expected to reach over 4,000 students, empowering the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.
The Makerspace represents a substantial investment in digital education for India’s youth. Recognising the need to spark curiosity and cultivate skills at a young age, Amazon’s Makerspace offers a range of programmes tailored to students’ learning levels, from foundational sessions to advanced, multi-month training courses.
For beginners, short 3-4 hour sessions provide an introduction to coding and robotics. Intermediate students can engage in more intensive six-hour sessions that explore deeper aspects of robotics, programming, and design over two days.
Advanced students, meanwhile, can participate in multi-month programmes, working on complex projects, team challenges, and even international competitions.
“This facility provides thousands of young minds with the tools, knowledge, and mentorship they need to become future innovators,” said Akshay Kashyap, India Lead for the Amazon Future Engineer Program. “By offering hands-on learning experiences in robotics, AI, and 3D printing, we’re empowering the next generation of tech leaders and igniting a passion for STEM.”
According to Meenal Majumder, founder of The Innovation Story, the programme’s knowledge partner, the mission is to transform students from passive learners to active creators and innovators.
“Our goal is to empower students to become change-makers through cohort-based, hands-on programmes in computer science and robotics. The Amazon Future Engineer Program gives underserved students access to the skills and resources they need to succeed in tech and AI careers,” she said.
As part of the Amazon Future Engineer initiative, the Makerspace seeks to inspire a new generation of tech leaders by engaging students in interactive, hands-on learning experiences.
Participants can pre-book online sessions, with the facility accommodating up to 40 students per session, creating an environment that combines accessibility, collaboration, and community-building.
Through initiatives like the Makerspace, Amazon hopes to contribute to India’s growing tech landscape by nurturing young talent from underrepresented communities and preparing them for future careers in a technology-driven world. The Bengaluru Makerspace is just the beginning, signalling Amazon’s long-term commitment to uplifting India’s underserved communities through education and digital innovation. UNI BDN SSP
In a world where access to quality STEM education can determine future opportunities, Amazon’s Makerspace is a model for how corporate investment in education can bridge societal gaps and cultivate a new generation of creators and problem-solvers.
