CBDT asked to withdraw controversial ITR on foreign travel

New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) Within 24 hours of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) notifying that the details of foreign travel by IT assessees will have to be furnished in their annual return, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has directed the authority to reconsider the matter. The CBDT will now bring a much simplified form so that unnecessary details from the assessees are not sought, Revenue Secretary Shaktikanta Das said here. Mr Jaitley gave these instruction from Washington where he is attending the World Bank-IMF annual spring meeting. The quick response to the CBDT notification comes in the backdrop of Tax consultant and experts voicing their strong resentment and concerns over the kind of details which were sought to be elicited in the ITR forms. Yesterday, the CBDT had issued a notification asking the tax assessees to disclose details of their foreign travels along with details of all their bank accounts in their annual returns with an objective to enable the government to find a trail of unaccounted money.
