ASF claims 25 pigs in Mizoram after two-day respite

Aizawl, Nov 25(UNI) After two consecutive days without pig fatalities, Mizoram recorded 25 pig deaths on Monday due to African Swine Fever (ASF) infections. Of these, 24 deaths occurred in Lungdai village, Kolasib district, near the Assam border.
Officials from the state Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department reported that this year's ASF resurgence has so far claimed 14,766 pigs since the first fatality was confirmed on February 9 at Leithum village in Champhai district, bordering Myanmar. As of Monday, 256 villages have been declared ASF-infected.
While no culling was reported on Sunday, one pig was culled on Monday at Kawnpui village in Serchhip district, adding to the cumulative total of 24,044 pigs culled since the outbreak began.
