Odisha records an estimated turnout of 48.95 pc till 3 PM

Bhubaneswar, May 20 (UNI) An approximate 48.95 per cent polling was recorded till 3 PM in Monday in Odisha, Election Commission of India sources said.
Around 48.95 per cent of 79.62 lakh voters exercised their franchise in five Lok Sabha and 35 Assembly seats in Odisha till 1500 hrs.
Baring some sporadic minor incidents the polling was peaceful across the state and going on smoothly.
The CEO said polling is going on smoothly across the state.
He said though an auto rickshaw driver was stabbed to death in Bargarh but it was not related to election. The murder was committed due to personal rivalry, CEO N B Dhal and Northern Range IG Himanshu Lal said.

ECI sources said the Baragarh Lok Sabha seat reported the highest voter turnaround of 53.88 per cent followed by Sundergarh 48.96 per cent. Kandhamal 48.93 percent, Bolangir 46.96 per cent and Aska 46.23 per cent voter turnout till 1500 hrs, the lowest.
Jharsuguda district reported the highest polling of 55.08 per cent polling and Bolangir reported the lowest voting turn out of 45.66 per cent.
While Suybarmnapur reported a voting polling of 50.95 per cent and Nayagarha reported 50.10 per cent polling.
The CEO said out of 35 Assembly constituencies over 50 per cent polling was recorded in 14 Assembly seats and in five Assembly constituencies, the polling percentage was less than 45 per cent.
Bolangir reported the lowest voting percentage of approximately 40 per cent, Rourkela 43.44 per cent, Raghunathpalli 46 per cent and Jharsuguda 56 per cent.
He said the voting will continue till 1800 hrs.
The CEO said polling was stopped in booth No 28 in Kantamal due to some problems and action will be taken after detailed report was received.
While the voting was on Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a massive roadshow in Puri. The Prime Minister also addressed two mega public meetings at Angul and Cuttack and made scathing attack on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Today’s polling will seal the fate of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,who is contesting from both Hinjili and Kantabanji Assembly seats, his six council of ministers, two former union Ministers Jual Oram and Dillip Ray, four former Odisha ministers and several sitting MLAs.
The polling will also decide the electoral fortunes of sitting MPs Jual Oram,(Sundargarh) Sangeeta Sing Deo(Bolangir) and Achyut Samant (Kandhamal).
In the 2019 general elections, out of the five Lok Sabha seats, the BJP won the Sundargarh,Bolangir and Bargarh seat while the ruling BJD won Kandhamal and Aska Lok sabha seats.
Similarly, out of 35 Assembly seats, the ruling BJD had won 26 Assembly seats in the 2019 election followed by four each by both BJP and Congress and one seat by the CPI(M).
