Bhubaneswar, May 13 (UNI) Odisha recorded an estimated 39.30 per cent turnout in four Lok Sabha and 28 Assembly constituencies by 1 PM on Monday, Chief Electoral Officer Nikunja Bihari Dhal said.
The CEO said Kalahandi recorded the highest 42.67 per cent polling followed by 42.65 per cent in Nabarangpur Parliamentary constituencies.
Berhampur Parliamentary constituency recorded the lowest polling of 34.97 per cent while Koraput Parliamentary constituency recorded 36.64 per cent voting.
The Jharigam Assembly constituency recorded 46.9 per cent polling, the highest among the 28 Assembly constituencies while Berhampur Assembly constituency recorded the lowest voting percentage of 26.13 per cent.
Dhal stated that voting is going on smoothly and peacefully across the state and appealed to the voters, particularly the urban voters to come forward and exercise their franchise to elect the candidate of their choice.
Sources said voters have boycotted the poll in certain booths in Laxmipur, Dharamgarh, Mohana and Nabarangpur Assembly constituency. Not a single voter has turned up to cast his vote in the booths.
Though local officials tried their best to persuade the voters to participate in the voting process, it failed to yield any result.
In Jharigaon under Nabarangpur district the voters did not turn up to cast their ballot at booth no 1017 demanding revenue status to their village.
The voters said though they have been demanding revenue status to the village for the last ten years nobody is listening to their demand.
The CEO said in Kotia GP which has nine polling stations the voting percentage was 53.34 per cent till 1 pm.
The highest polling percentage of 86 per cent was recorded in polling booth no 85 in Talakanti under the Pattangi Assembly constituency.
Similarly in Gumel Paddar upper primary school booth 74 per cent polling was recorded till 1 PM,the CEO said.
