Minister warns of rising tobacco & drug use among Mizoram school dtudents

Aizawl, Oct 31 (UNI) Health and Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii today voiced serious concern over the rising trend of tobacco use and drug initiation among school students, warning that several middle schoolers in Mizoram have already been exposed to smoking and, in some cases, to drugs.
Speaking at a function in Aizawl marking the launch of the Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign (TFYC) 3.0 and the observance of the 12th Mizoram State Anti-Tobacco Day 2025, Lalrinpuii said departmental studies revealed that most drug users in the state were first introduced to drugs through smoking or other forms of tobacco use.
She said the campaign’s main goal is to make schools, colleges, and villages tobacco-free zones, stressing that the use of tobacco not only harms individual health but also affects workplaces, family livelihoods, and the economy at large.
