Landslide renders 23 tribal families homeless in Tripura

Agartala, April 2 (UNI) As many as 23 tribal families of the 45-mile area of Atharamura hill range under Teliamura in Khowai district were rendered homeless following a sudden landslide because of the cutting down of hills and fissures for widening National Highway connecting Agartala with rest of the country.
The incident happened on Friday night and the affected people took shelter in a nearby school.
The agitated families blockade the National Highway on Saturday seeking adequate compensation.
Finally, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma interacted with the affected people and assured to address their grievances to lift the blockade.
According to the report, the families were affected by the landslide caused due to cutting of hills for the widening of the road. The houses slipped down on Friday evening following incessant rain.
