Tripura again seeks time in SC to reply on Village Council election

Agartala, Nov 2 (UNI) Tripura government has again sought an extension of two weeks from the Supreme Court to submit its response to a writ petition regarding the long-overdue elections for the Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Earlier, the Advocate for the State of Tripura informed the apex judiciary that additional time is needed to secure “complete instructions” from the government before filing their official reply. The case is scheduled for a hearing tomorrow in the bench comprising Chief Justice of India B R Gaavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran, but again, the state asked for two weeks.
Last month, when the case was heard, the state sought time to reply. Founder of the TIPRA Motha - the state's ruling BJP’s ally in the government - and a member of the royal family, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, filed the petition to the top court seeking judicial action against what he described as a deliberate and unconstitutional delay in conducting the elections for rural bodies in the tribal regions.
