Bhubaneswar, May 14 (UNI) A record 73.97 percent of 62.84 lakh voters exercised their franchise in four Lok Sabha and 28 Assembly seats in Odisha, where polling was held on Monday.
ECI sources said the Nabarangpur (ST) parliamentary constituency recorded the highest polling at 80.22 percent, followed by 76.98 percent in Koraput, also a ST constituency.
The two other general parliamentary constituencies, Kalahandi and Berhampur, recorded 75.71 and 63.34 percent, respectively.
In the Nabarangpur Lok Sabha seat, three Assembly segments—Nabarangpur, Dabugam, and Jharigam—recorded more than 84 percent polling, with the highest being 85.61 percent in Nabarangpur,followed by 85.20 percent in Dabugam and 84.22 percent in Jharigam.
Similarly, in the Koraput Lok Sabha constituency, two Assembly segments—Pottangi and Laxmipur—recorded over 80 percent voting, with Pottangi recording a maximum of 82.40 percent polling.
Although the Berhampur Lok Sabha constituency recorded 63.34 percent polling, the lowest among the four Lok Sabha seats that went to polls on Monday, the Mohana Assembly segment under the Berhampur Lok Sabha seat recorded 71.20 percent.
In the Kalahandi Lok Sabha seat, two Assembly segments, Junagarh and Dharmagarh, recorded 78.90 percent and 78.85 percent polling, respectively.
Monday's polling in the state was by and large peaceful, barring some stray incidents of violence, official sources said.
