Patna, Oct 18 (UNI) Leader of the opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejaswi Prasad Yadav on Friday alleged that the Rs 30,000 Crores market of illegal liquor was flourishing in the dry state while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar remained only a silent spectator, giving free hands to liquor mafias and criminals.
Yadav said that Bihar was a dry state but liquor mafias had free hands due to protection being given by leaders of ruling parties and top officials. As per an estimate, the Rs 30,000 Crores market of illegal liquor was flourishing in dry Bihar which was a reflection of the failure of the Nitish Kumar government to enforce prohibition in the state, he added.
" As per government record, more than 300 people died in Bihar in hooch tragedy since liquor ban was imposed in the state but in reality, more than 1000 people died so far due to consumption of spurious liquor", the leader of the opposition said adding that most of those nabbed for smuggling of liquor were leaders and workers of ruling JD(U).
