Himalayan snowfall triggers sharp temperature drop in Jharkhand; mercury falls to 6°C

Ranchi, Nov 17 (UNI) The ongoing snowfall in the Himalayan states has begun to significantly affect weather conditions in Jharkhand, pushing the state into an early winter chill. Cold conditions typically felt in December have arrived in early November this year, with temperatures dipping sharply across several districts.
Mccluskieganj recorded the season’s lowest temperature at 6°C on Sunday, marking an unusual drop for this time of year. In Ranchi and neighbouring areas, the morning and evening chill has intensified, while dense fog in rural regions has disrupted visibility and affected movement. Many districts have seen their minimum temperature slip below 10°C, adding to the severity of the early winter onset.
The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave warning for 11 districts including Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, Lohardaga and Latehar. A yellow alert will remain in effect for the next 24 hours. Thick fog and icy winds pose heightened risks for children, the elderly, and people who work outdoors during early morning and late evening hours.
