Congress seeks Rs 200 crore assistance to help people affected by hailstorm in Manipur

Imphal, May 10 (UNI) Manipur Congress President K Meghachandra has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide Rs 200 crore as assistance to help the people affected by a hailstorm, lightning, and heavy rainfall on May 5 which destroyed over 15400 houses.
He said lakhs of people were affected and appealed to declare the disaster as a national disaster. Standing seasonal crops and vegetables were completely destroyed. A team of Congress leaders also visited various places affected by the hailstorm.
Earlier, the MPCC President along with leaders of the party had visited some houses in Imphal West district affected by the recent hailstorm. The state government has announced a relief package of Rs 6.90 crore and to distribute CGI roofing sheets to the affected people.
