Canada: Khalistani lobby fails in attempt to have 1984 anti-Sikh riots labelled as genocide

Ottawa/New Delhi, Dec 7 (UNI) Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP), led by Khalistani separatist and former minister Jagmeet Singh, failed in its attempt to have the 1984 anti-Sikh riots recognised as genocide, as the motion faced stiff resistance in the House of Commons from Liberal MP Chandra Arya.
The motion was introduced by NDP MP Sukh Dhaliwal. Liberal MP Chandra Arya said the motion was driven by a “politically powerful Khalistani lobby”.
Arya was the sole MP present to oppose the motion, which required unanimous consent to pass, media reports said.

New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of those killed in the Red Fort car bomb blast, while those who developed a disability will receive Rs 5 lakh. The seriously injured victims will be given Rs 2 lakh each, and those with minor injuries will be given Rs 20,000.
