New Delhi, April 30 (UNI) Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Punjab cadre, Gurinder Singh Dhillon on Tuesday joined the Congress after taking voluntary retirement from service.
The former Additional Director General of Police joined the grand old part in presence of Punjab Congress in-charge Devendra Yadav at the AICC headquarters here.
Welcoming Dillion into the party Yadav expressed hope that Dhillon, as a former senior officer in Punjab Police, understands the situation of the state properly and his joining the party will further strengthen it. He assured that Dhillon will soon be given an important post.
Yadav said, “Dhillon came in contact with Rahul Gandhi ji some time ago. He was the security in-charge in Punjab during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. I thank Gurinder ji and his family for connecting with our ideology and joining us”.
Dhillon after joining the party assured that he would dedicatedly work to strength the Congress.
"I will perform all my duties towards the Congress party with dedication. I have served my state Punjab for almost two decades as a police officer and today I am here with the blessings of Rahul Gandhi Ji. I met Rahul ji during my two significant duties -- at the Punjab leg of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and when Rahul Gandhi ji visited the Golden Temple for sewa," Dhillon said.
He said he was well aware of the situation in Punjab having worked as a top police officer in law and order there. He was joining the party after being influenced by the ideology of the Congress.
