ED uncovers Rs 800 crore gold smuggling racket from China using Cryptocurrency

New Delhi Sep 9, (UNI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) announced today that its Srinagar Zonal Office recently conducted search operations under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
The searches targeted five locations in Delhi-NCR and one in Ladakh at the residential and business premises of individuals connected to the seizure of 108 kg of foreign-origin gold by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) investigated the case and found that a total of 1,064 kg of foreign-origin gold had been transacted using this method, with payments made through the cryptocurrency USDT (Tether). The DRI has detained ten persons under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (COFEPOSA), and they remain in custody.
