Massive GST fraud unearthed: 12 fake firms, Rs 8.6 cr evasion in timber trade

Moradabad, Nov 18 (UNI) The State Tax Department’s mobile unit has unearthed a major case of Input Tax Credit (ITC) fraud in the timber trade, involving multiple firms using a single mobile number to evade GST.
During the investigation, officials discovered that 12 firms were registered using the same number as Sitapur-based Zara Enterprises, whose business structure appeared suspicious. The department detected GST evasion worth Rs8.60 crore on a turnover of ₹67 crore, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The fraud network reportedly operated through firms registered under the Central GST (CGST). The investigation began when the mobile unit intercepted three trucks loaded with timber. Documents revealed that the consignment was purchased by Zara Enterprises..
