Special seats for single girl child introduced at GGSIPU

Special seats for single girl child introduced at GGSIPU

New Delhi, May 17 (UNI) In a significant move to encourage girls' higher education, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has introduced a special provision for single girl children in its admissions process.
Starting from the academic session 2024–25, the university will offer one supernumerary seat in each undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programme at its University School of Studies, specifically for single girl children.

This initiative, made under the GGSIP University Act of 1998, aims to support the government’s ‘Girl Child Campaign’. The allocation of these seats will be merit-based, determined by the applicable National Level Test, Common Entrance Test, or the merit of the qualifying examination.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahesh Verma emphasised that this provision marks a significant milestone towards women's empowerment. Eligible candidates include any single girl child, both girls in the case of twins, and the girl child in the case of twin siblings of different genders.

The seat allocation will be conducted on an all-India basis without any regional allocation or other reservations such as SC/ST/Def/PwD/OBC/EWS. Interested candidates are encouraged to check the university’s official website (www.ipu.ac.in) and the admission portal (https:pu.admissions.nic.in) for further updates and to apply afresh when the application forms become available. Those who have not applied earlier can also apply through the new application form, ensuring they mention the details of any previous applications submitted online.

This initiative highlights GGSIPU’s commitment to fostering educational opportunities for girls and aligns with broader governmental efforts to promote gender equality in education.
